National Park Service Celebrates Centennial

On August 25, 2016, the National Park Service celebrates its centennial. One hundred years ago, President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Organic Act into law, creating the National Park Service to oversee the management of all national parks and some national monuments.

The Atomic Heritage Foundation (AHF) has published new articles in recognition of the 71st anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II. These articles were also prompted by President Obama’s visit to Hiroshima on May 27, 2016, which generated considerable interest.

Alexander Guest House Preservation Project Receives ACHP Award

On July 13, the East Tennessee Preservation Alliance (ETPA), the Department of Energy (DOE) in Oak Ridge, and Dover Development received the Advisory Council for Historic Preservation Chairman’s Award for Achievement in Historic Preservation for their efforts to preserve and restore the historic Alexander Inn in Oak Ridge.
